I am a commercial gas engineer working predominately in London and the south east of England. You’re probably, wondering why art?
Art is something that I took up too late. Growing up and studying a wide variety of subjects in secondary school, art was always way down on my list in terms of favourite subjects, or even a subject that I could say I enjoyed. As I approached my option year (aged 14) I had a huge shift in my creative development, taking an interest in art and design. Art became a way to articulate myself, to put my feelings and inner thoughts to a canvas, piece of paper or whatever medium I took to.
Present day: I use art in my day - day expression. To me it’s as though art is it’s own complex language that is constantly evolving and being deciphered. If I’m working on a canvas or soldering copper pipes, I see the work through the lens of an artist. I am inspired by many different avenues of life, from travelling to new destinations or walking in my local park. When I’m in the process of creating work, I have to feel moved to do so. I rarely force myself to start or continue on with a piece if I don’t feel moved, which can slow down the journey.
What pieces do I like to create ?
I love abstract art! I feel abstract art allows for countless interpretations and engages as a great conversation starter. I embrace art and its many forms, I avoid restricting myself to focus on one style of communication. Abstract art is an avenue that I will explore for the foreseeable future.
